Grease Trap Cleaning for Bloomington & Monroe County
Bloomington is a restaurant town. Between the Kirkwood Avenue strip, the square, and the kitchens serving Indiana University, the city has a dense commercial food scene, and every one of those kitchens needs its grease trap or interceptor pumped and cleaned on a regular schedule. Let it go and you get slow drains, foul odors, and eventually a backup that shuts the line down during service.
Bloomington is stricter than the generic rule of thumb. If your kitchen discharges to City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) sewer, the FOG rules in Bloomington Municipal Code Chapter 10.17 require a grease trap to be pumped out completely at least once every 30 days and a grease interceptor at least once every 90 days, or more often if it fills faster. Every cleanout also has to be reported to CBU through its SwiftComply compliance system within 14 days. A monthly or quarterly schedule here is not a nice-to-have, it is the minimum.
Quick Pump and Clean is not taking grease trap jobs yet. Grease is hauled and disposed of differently from septic waste, and we are adding a truck equipped for it. Once it is in service we plan to offer recurring grease trap and interceptor pumping for restaurants, cafes, and commercial kitchens across Bloomington and Monroe County. How often does a Bloomington restaurant need its grease trap cleaned?
On CBU sewer, at least every 30 days for a grease trap and at least every 90 days for a grease interceptor, under Bloomington Municipal Code Chapter 10.17. A busy fryer-heavy kitchen may need to go more often than that, since the trap should never be allowed past about a quarter full. Once our grease service launches, we will build schedules that meet the city minimum and fit your volume.

What happens if a grease trap is not cleaned?
Grease and solids build up until they block the outlet, causing slow drains, sewer odors, and eventually a backup into the kitchen. It can also put you out of compliance with local code. Regular cleaning avoids all of it.
Will you handle grease interceptors as well as smaller indoor traps?
That is the plan: both the smaller under-sink and in-floor traps and the larger in-ground grease interceptors that higher-volume kitchens use.
